Home Made Electric Car

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Cars

st0ckman.blogspot.com David Murray may drive the quietest car in North Texas, powered only by a small electric motor, and not creating any emissions. “The most common question I get is, ‘Is this an electric car?’ and then they’re like, “Is it a hybrid?’ Nope, it’s a real electric (car),” Murray said. When his car is low on fuel, Murray simply plugs the power cord into the nearest outlet. “Yeah, just plug it in here. Just a regular old extension cord,” Murray said. The self-described computer geek from Kennedale bought the 1993 Eagle Talon from a junkyard for just $750. “First thing I did when I got the car home was pull the engine out,” Murray said. He then spent about $4000 more to convert the gas-guzzler to run on electricity alone, doing all the work himself in his garage at home. “I bought the electric motor and I was like well, I gotta figure out a way to couple it together with the original transmission,” he said. The car can hit 55 mph, driving right past the high prices at gas stations. “I hear people complain about them at work all the time. I just grin,” he said. Murray spends just $7 per month on electricity to charge the batteries — enough to go about 300 miles. “I don’t even look at the gas prices,” Murray said.

Would an Electric Car That Ran On Renewable Energy Be Eco-friendly?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Cars

A lot of the “energy” for electric cars comes from fossil fuels. So, I don’t think you’re making much of a difference with electric cars (you’re simply trading one fossil fuel for another). So if an electric car got engery from an electric “gas station” that was fueled by wind power (or another renewable source), would it be more eco-friendly?

How Do You Wind an Electric Car Window Up?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Cars

The electric window to one side of the car has gone dead. It is now stuck in the down position but the other window side works fine though.

I checked both fuse locations inside the car and hood but none of them have fuses for the windows.

I’ve even checked the car manual and there’s nothing about window fuses or how to get the darn thing up in situations like these.

I’ve even resorted to a pair of pliers to see if I could dislodge it. I’m all out of ideas – please help!

With most household having more than one car, gasoline expenses have become a major issue. Unfortunately, sending a car to a professional garage to be retrofitted into an Electric Vehicle (EV) will cost more than $4000. The investment is too high for most car owners. An alternative is to do an electric car motor conversion via a Do It Yourself (DIY) project from home.

The Tesla Roadster: Is It the Worlds First Serious Electric Car?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Cars

The Tesla Roadster electric car has now gone into full public production, and with a chassis based on the acclaimed Lotus Elise and performance to match, this could be the first all electric car you would actually want to own. It also seems that with perfect timing Tesla has launched its new products into a world where, with uncertain petrol supplies and global warming, the electric car has suddenly become more appealing.

There have been a number of attempts in the past to produce a viable electric car, however the technology and public demand meant that these versions were never a great success. The biggest drawback was due to poor battery technology, which meant that such cars were lacking considerably in performance to keep up with modern traffic, and had a woefully poor range to match.
